Doctor Who: Fade Away Page 3 by ShawnVanBriesen Doctor Who: Fade Away Page 3 by ShawnVanBriesen
This is page 3 of Doctor Who: Fade Away by my talented pal Paul Hanley :iconpaulhanley: (story, colors, and lettering) and myself (pencils and inks). It is our (very fond) farewell to Nicholas Courtney.

Paul is heading out of the country for a few weeks and we'll pick this up when he returns. Personally, I know Page 4 will take me some time.

Paul's commentary: Okay, we managed to squeak one last page out before I jet outta here. The six remaing pages will be coming probably several weeks from now. Stay tuned.

Incidentally, "Geneva" was an early title I turned around in my head for this story. I even considered having it set there (or doing something similar with Peru- where we'd learn just what the heck was going on there). But then I got the idea of it being the old rural UNIT HQ's local pub, w/ all the old gang's photos on the wall, and it had to go that way (you'll see why by the end of the story).

You so captured both of them so perfectly in this. I could just hear Eleven during the "Briggy, Brigg, Brigg" part, perfection.
RIP Nicholas Courtney, you will truly be missed.

No. 11 was in an episode of The Sarah Jane Adventures entitled The Death of the Doctor along with Jo Grant. Both Sarah Jane and Jo were companions of the third Doctor during his time at U.N.I.T with the Brigadier.

Like the time mucking about in the dialogue. Have you seen the new eps yet? Goes with the mind mucking nicely. And love the expression in the last panel.

We've both seen it through A Christmas Carol. I'm patiently awaiting series six. I think Paul writes fantastic dialogue and really nailed it on this story.

He even sent a letter telling him where to meet him. I'm jealous though. You know how it turns out. I'm really hoping part 2 pays off because the opening episode was amazing.

Yay! Good to know, but it's all guesswork on Paul and I's part. Mostly we just loved The Brigadier.

Not odd at all, hair is pretty cool. I like sketching it, but I think coloring it is a pain in the ass. :P

This is so well done, I cannot properly express my appreciation for this comic. You've captured the Doctor and the old Brigadier wonderfully, with both the script and beautiful illustration. I am eagerly looking forward to the next page. <3

Thank you. Unfortunately, Paul is...uh...well...stranded in Peru for the next two weeks. Okay, he's in Viet Nam....same difference...six of one half dozen of the other...

I am penciling the remaining pages while is gone so they should come fast and furious upon his return.

This is wondrous. As a long time Dr. Who fan, the whole "The Brig's in Geneva' business makes me laugh (Gods, how many times did they use that line over the course of the show?)

And the tiny bit of fear (longing?) in the next to the last panel, when the Brig says he thought he might never see the Doctor again. He's obviously mellowed with age-there was a time when you couldn't have forced that admission out of him at gunpoint (even though he'd mean it then, too).

Really looking forward to the next chapter.
